The site for this greenhouse was a south-facing hillside. Ceres’ created a custom, earth-sheltered greenhouse to provide a super energy-efficient growing environment for the owner’s mountain home. Located at 5,400 ft. elevation, the greenhouse required super-insulated walls. Ceres’ used Structurally Insulated Panels to form the north, east and west walls of the structure. Glass windows provide beautiful views and high-light transmittance glazing on the south, east and west sides. An optimized polycarbonate roof stands up to the climate’s high wind and snow loads. Partially sheltered by the surrounding soil, the durable greenhouse saves energy and grows tomatoes, flowers and citrus year-round. More about earth-sheltered greenhouse design in our book The Year-Round Solar Greenhouse.
